I would love it if some cool mom baked all these cookies for a SUPER inappropriate elementary school bake sale.

“Jewel Caterpillars” are the larvae of Dalceridae moths. Their gooey coating is unpalatable and therefore serves to protect them from predators. Instead of forming a cocoon, the larvae builds a cage where it will pupate. Image sources [x][xx]

Dogs are so freakin noble.
Earlier today on the news, I saw a pack of beautiful Golden Retrievers that were serving as therapy dogs for the Sandy Hook Elementary School families. The people seems lightened by the interaction, but I felt SO bad for the dogs. Their ears were super-droopy and they had tired eyes. Over the past few weeks they’ve been handled and hugged by thousands of grief-stricken people (I think they visited Hurricane Sandy families too). That’s hard work for a dog…
I hope they’re getting time and half.

Have you hugged your hyena today?
This is cute and all, but OHGOD I had no idea hyenas were this big. I’d always thought of them as somewhere on the small-to-medium dog scale, like a springer spaniel or something. UM NO.
So this dude is Kevin Richardson, known as “the Lion Whisperer.” Apparently he just goes out and gets himself accepted into groups of wild animals, for the purpose of making documentaries, commercials, etc. AS ONE DOES.
we hyena now
The Lion King really gave these guys some bad press. I guess they’re not all that bad :D
